Potty Training

A yorkie pup is a huge responsibility.

How do you keep your new pup healthy and strong? How do you make sure your pup will grow up and stay healthy for years to come?

You can get good information from your Veterinarian, from online sources--there are thousands of good sites, and from your breeder who  can also be a good source of information.

Bottom line--this is your new puppy. You need to become aware of what a new pup needs to grow up healthy--   good food, fresh water, frequent exercise followed by periods of rest.

What can hurt your pup?  Alot of things!

There are diseases, viruses, infections and parasites can make your dog seriously ill or worse. Some human foods are toxic to dogs. Some houseplants are poisonous to dogs. Some everyday plants outside your home can be toxic.

Some over-the-counter (cheaper) flea and tick treatments are just pesticides and can severely injure, poison, chemically burn and sometimes kill your dog. Don't buy your Flea and tick Prevention products at the grocers or big box stores. Use only Veterinarian approved types of Flea and Tick Prevention products, such as Frontline, or Advantage.

Some toys have pieces that pups can choke on. Pups can choke on treats such as rawhide chews.

Don't leave a dog with a collar and leash on or on a  chain unsupervised. Pups can strangle to death if they jump off a step, or a log, or out a window.  Falls from the couch, from your bed, or from a chair can seriously hurt, paralyze or even kill your pup. Never leave a pup unattended for even a moment.  Its not a matter of if they will jump, but when they will. They can and will quickly jump out of your arms too. They can quickly bolt out an open door to your house, from the open door or window of your vehicle. Be aware.

Other dogs can hurt or even kill a small pup. Don't assume someone else's dog is harmless--unless you have personally supervised these same two dogs in the past.   Anytime you go to a new place with your pup, pay attention. Don't leave your pup alone. Don't let your pup wander off--If you are not familiar with the place, hold your pup or leave it home.

Assume that places ARE dangerous until you yourself are 100% sure they are not!

Here we feed our pregnant moms Fromm Puppy food.

When the pups are old enough to eat dry kibble,  we feed them this same great food. We send them home with a small bag to get them started.

I bought my beautiful gold Dusty and Hannah from Cindy. I have great hopes for both. They came already spoiled rotten, and loveable, as well as being very well socialized. I am impressed.

We also buy Pedigree Canned Puppy Food. We will mix a couple of tablespoons of this with the dry food and add a little water when the pups are making the change from soft foods to dry.
